My current research is focussed on the using electrophysiological techniques to investigate the effects of naturally occurring stimulation patterns on synaptic transmission at the hippocampal mossy fibre synapse. I am conducting field recordings from the CA3 region of the hippocampus while playing back in vivo granule cell firing patterns. I am investigating which patterns of activity give rise to long-term changes in synaptic efficacy at this synapse. My previous experience includes whole-cell patch-clamp and perforated patch techniques.
